First session of updated Council for Entrepreneurship Development over in Council of Ministers

The first session of the Council for Entrepreneurship Development under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksandr Turchin has been held in Minsk.

Aleksandr Turchin said: “One can say it is an orientation session in a manner of speaking. I’d like to determine the format, the rhythm of our work together with you.”

The legislation defines the status of the council. These meetings will be held on a quarterly basis.

The prime minister described the council as the key platform but not the only platform for interaction between the authorities and the private sector. “We need to step up the work of the councils for entrepreneurship development in the oblasts, in the districts,” Aleksandr Turchin said. “I would like you to speak about ways of increasing the efficiency of the council’s work: instead of dealing with specific tasks of a concrete enterprise you should think about the systemic, global problems that plague the economy.”

The head of government noted that the latest Belarusian People’s Congress session had adopted a program on the country’s social and economic development for the next five-year term and it is important to jointly determine the participation of the private sector in reaching the goals the document outlines. “For me it was of principal importance to get together this year because accidentally we have to sketch out the ways, avenues of work,” the prime minister noted. The government counts on constructive interaction. Efficient cooperation benefits the country, the official stressed.

The Council for Entrepreneurship Development is a permanent consultative body under the Council of Ministers. It comprises a number of executives (owners) of the most successful private enterprises. The council is led by the prime minister. The council is supposed to enable efficient interaction of business circles with government agencies and state organizations, enable participation of their representatives in the development of measures meant to regulate entrepreneurship, stimulate investments and the long-term development of the country’s economy.

BelTA reported earlier that a Council of Ministers resolution refreshed the composition of the Council for Entrepreneurship Development in December. Members of the council are 26 successful heads of privately owned manufacturing businesses that operate in various economy branches and regions. The organizations they run have been established from scratch and have evolved from an idea to an efficiently functioning enterprise. Some of them are winners of the national contest Entrepreneur of the Year in the Efficient Business nomination. Sergei Stolyarchuk, Chairman of the Board of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus (DBRB), is now the deputy chairman of the Council for Entrepreneurship Development. Practical experience of running the enterprises allows members of the council to detect topical problems of the entrepreneurship community in a timely manner, evaluate their consequences, and suggest possible solutions.
